Forgive Us, You’re Dying is a devised piece based on the 15th century morality play Everyman. The entire show was conceived and produced remotely. Performances were acted and streamed live each night. For this show, I worked as the production designer and led each area of design with my team (and acted as the glove model).
In the early stages of our show, I was searching for a common language between the allegories in Everyman and contemporary life. I eventually landed on the idea of having our characters / allegories as tarot cards. This opened a lot of doors for us in virtual theatre in every area of design and direction. We were able to use tarot spreads as guides for our staging. We were also able to contain each of our characters within their own zoom box / tarot card in a way that allowed for the design to be enhanced by the digital medium instead of fighting against it.
